Flute Bit (Windsucker) – Bit with Airflow Effect

The Flute Bit, also known as a Windsucker Bit, works through a unique airflow mechanism. As the horse breathes, air is drawn through holes in the bit’s mouthpiece. This creates a suction effect that triggers a response from the horse, increasing focus and reactivity.

This bit is particularly suitable for strong horses or those that tend to lean on the bit, helping to maintain light and responsive contact.

Loose Ring Snaffle

The loose ring snaffle is a classic, versatile option. The free-moving rings allow the bit to move naturally in the horse's mouth, offering a flexible feel that many horses accept well.

The sharpness or softness of the bit’s action depends on:

• the construction of the bit,

• its thickness,

• and the material used.

It’s important to ensure that the rings aren’t too narrow, as skin from the corners of the mouth can get pinched. If needed, rubber bit guards can help prevent this.

Straight Bit Design

Bits with a straight mouthpiece are made from one solid piece. They apply pressure to:

• the tongue,

• the bars (toothless gum areas),

• and the lips.

The shape and thickness of the bit determine how and where pressure is distributed in the horse’s mouth.

• A straight bit with a tongue port shifts pressure to the bars and allows more tongue freedom.

• The straighter and thicker the bit, the more pressure is applied to the tongue.
